The Southport side case is a larger version of my Westport side case, named after another Maine island at the mouth of the Sheepscot River, below where my shop and home are. This piece, as pictured, was originally commissioned by part time residents of the island for their city apartment and represents many of the custom options that are possible.
The case has many of the same basic structural features but is taller, deeper and longer than the Westport; the custom gray pigmented finish on ash and cerused white oak doors and back represent an inversion of the Westport’s configuration in this regard. Another difference is the inset doors, which show the full thickness of the case sides surrounding them and work nicely with touch latches to retain the crisp, clean appearance without the need pulls or knobs.
Behind the middle two doors is a full width pull out drawer equipped also with touch mechanism and undermount slides. The left door bay also contains a drawer, and adjustable shelf below, while the right door contains only fully adjustable shelving. All internal parts are ash finished with the same custom gray, durable conversion varnish finish. The back, like that of the Westport, is fully finished and inset so as to have the same appearance, in this application, as the door fronts. The legs are ebonized mahogany.
This piece is highly customizable. From size, woods and finish, and interior components, please contact me to discuss your preferences and for a price quote.
