Designed for structural bodywork such as KMI Structural Integration and Rolfing.
My benches are made of all solid hardwood (not baltic birch or other types of plywood) in three domestic species – maple, cherry and walnut. From rough lumber I select the boards, mill, construct and finish each bench myself with the same care and detailing that goes into my other furniture pieces. The benches are spray-finished with a super-durable satin conversion varnish. Each one is as beautiful as it is functional.
I designed these benches years ago with the input of Tom Myers (Anatomy Trains). The shapely, asymmetric sides of each bench create a stable structure while also allowing the back side of the bench to be positioned close to a wall. The seat can be easily raised or lowered to 6 different height settings via slots on the bench sides. The seat slides in and drops down past a notch that locks the seat firmly in place when being used.
The bench ships flat, in pieces, and sets up and can be taken apart quickly; tenons on the stretcher’s ends fit into mortises in the bench sides and then four bolts screw in with included hex wrench to make for a super rugged structure. The handsome recessed handles make carrying or moving the bench around when set-up easy.
Please see above for present availability. If I don’t have what you want in stock I can estimate timing of when I will.
As with my other furniture pieces, I ask for a minimum 50% deposit to order/commission the building of a new bench. If I have one in stock, full payment including the cost of packaging and shipping is required before I ship.
Because of the time involved and furniture quality of these benches, I take a lot of care (and a necessary amount of material) to package them securely so they will reach their destination safely – hence the packaging charge. Send me your address and I can provide the entire quote which includes packaging and the fully insured UPS ground shipping cost to your door.
In an effort to keep the cost of these benches down to a minimum, my policy is to ask for payment in check, when possible. I will gladly accept credit card or payment via venmo or paypal, but in this case I will add the transaction fee (about $20) to bench costs (top of page).
