The Blue Crane console began as the prototype of my Crane table design. Using poplar, a less expensive hardwood, I worked out all the joinery and shaping on this table ahead of building my subsequent mahogany Crane table for the first time in the winter of 2018. I ended up with not only a successful mahogany version, but a successful poplar one as well that I decided to paint with conversion varnish this wonderful blue.
I built the Blue Crane and Crane tables just ahead of the 2018 Smithsonian Craft Show in April. The Blue Crane sold quickly at the show. The mahogany Crane lived and was admired in my Maine showroom over the following summer and sold at my next show, at the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show.
I have since re-created the Blue Crane for a NYC designer. Images of this piece regularly receive at least as much attention as the mahogany version.
The Crane design is reproducible in other woods and finishes. Please contact me to discuss. As with all my pieces, this table is designed and built solely by me. Because of this, you can be assured, that there will be a limited number produced. Each piece is signed and numbered. By the very nature of the hand shaping required each Crane table is unique and requires many many hours to reach its finished form.
